A project years in the making, Love As Fiction Records is proud to present Bluebottle Kiss' 1996 album, Fear of Girls on double vinyl LP.
Fear of Girls was the album that got me in to Bluebottle Kiss, as the band headed around the country on the "Unipaloser Tour" with murmur label mates Jebediah and Something for Kate. From there, like many of you it began an obsession with the band, relentlessly acquiring back and future catalogue and seeing every show I could. In starting the Love As Fiction Records label, the first release was Somnambulist Homesick Blues and I intended to release this album soon after but more work was required to make it happen.
Audio for the album has been sourced from DATs provided by Jack Endino back in the 90s and carefully stored by Jamie Hutchings. This original master was transferred and reviewed by Chris Colquhoun and remastered by the original producer of the album, Jack Endino in 2024. Nearly 30 years on, the album sounds as good as it did then, raw and powerful one moment, introspective and spooked in the next. This was showcased on the band's 2022 tour and the live album Never Leave Town - Live in Sydney. The album was recorded by the Bluebottle Kiss three piece lineup of Jamie Hutchings, Ben Fletcher and Peter Noble.
Original source artwork for the album was absent, other than a basic scan of the album cover. Luckily, an original album poster was found by Rohan (and restored by Karen), for Matt Bayes to use in the 2024 graphic design. I also carefully scanned original slides from the album shoot for Matt to clean and use inside the cover. We have also reviewed and licensed a photo chosen by the band from Sophie Howarth Photography for the back cover, from a photo shoot in the era. Matt has also created new inner labels with a different colour for each side of the record, reflecting the seasons of the album.
The album has been licensed from Sony for this special vinyl reissue and is limited to 250 copies, due to licensing restrictions audio download is not included. The records will be pressed in Australia by Suitcase Records.
Bluebottle Kiss will be supporting the reissue of the album on a 3 date joint tour with Screamfeeder in November in Adelaide, Melbourne and Sydney, get your tickets here! The Sydney show will also be supported by Restless Leg.
This is your chance to get the album on vinyl, this is a once off reissue only, don't delay!
